Best of Motorhead: The 50 Greatest Songs by the Loudest Band in the World

It's doubtful any 14-song Motörhead collection will ever be worthy of as definitive a title as this particular set, but it's also quite difficult to find fault with any of these selections. Some may justifiably argue that less-than-ubiquitous choices such as "Dead Men Tell No Tales," "Over the Top," or "Damage Case," shoulda/coulda been supplanted by sadly absent latter-day nuggets like "Dancing on Your Grave," "I'm So Bad (Baby I Don't Care)," and especially "Orgasmatron," but then again, maybe not. In other words, this excellent "best-of" truly borders on perfection in a way not seen since the arguably still peerless No Remorse.

Best of Motorhead

This particular Best of Motörhead release is a double-disc set on the Sanctuary subsidiary Metal-Is, and it's one of the very, very few Motörhead collections that tries to draw material from throughout the band's career. The compilers couldn't secure the rights to everything, and as such, there's nothing here from albums like 1916 or Bastards. But there are tracks from the later Overnight Sensation, Snake Bite Love, and We Are Motörhead albums, plus four bonus live tracks dating from various points in the group's career. The result isn't a definitive overview, but it is a pretty decent one, and the sound quality is good too. The best pure, concentrated shot of Motörhead is still No Remorse, focusing exclusively as it does on the band's peak early years, but this Best Of isn't a bad choice for someone wanting highlights from their later career as well.

No Remorse [Bronze, 1984]The critics who used to call Motorhead the worst band in the world had a point, which may be why Lemmy's high-speed metal has now turned into the thinking person's headbang. The stuff is so pure it's almost rarefied: no operatic declamations, no schlocky guitaristics, no satanism or medievalism or sci-fi or sexist s&m. Just aggression, violence, noise. Lemmy doesn't even bellow--his voice is more a hoarse, loud, one-note roar. This tasteful two-disc best-of-plus-four (new and definitive: "Killed By Death") is the first Motorhead product praised by Headheads since No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith, eight of whose eleven songs it includes (the eight best, too). Unless you've got an extra Y chromosone or beat your meat till it bleeds, you likely don't need it on a regular basis. But it'll sure come in handy at those precious moments when you want nothing so much as to smash somebody's face. A-

'Killed By Death' may possibly be the best song to describe the Motörhead way of life. Capturing the purest essence of the '80s, the video starts off with parents telling their spandex-clad daughter she can't go out in public dressed that way. Lemmy comes to the rescue, exploding through the wall on his motorcycle. He seems unconcerned by the police chasing him as he speeds down the road. It's that rebel spirit that we've come to expect from the band that makes 'Killed By Death' No. 1 on our 10 Best Motörhead Videos countdown.

Which Dyson V10 is BEST for mostly tile floors (I have one large carpeted door mat 5ft x 3 ft) the Absolute or the Cyclone Animal? Which one is best to pick up dust from tile floors-the V10 Absolute or V10 Cyclone Animal? All these different models, it is so confusing which one meets my needs! Hope you can give me a difinitive answer so I can finally make a decision. Thank you.

Thanks for your thorough research. I am writing from Canada as well, and have bought a V10 Cyclone Motorhead through BF sale. However, my house is all hard wood floor. Will the motorhead version still works for hard wood flooring, or you have better suggestion?

I am buying from best buy since I have gift cards and they dont sell the absolute model. I am between the V10 animal and the V10 motorhead. I know the animal has the torque drive and the motorhead has the direct drive. Not sure which one to go with. I have 2 carpeted rooms and the rest hardwood floors. Eventually I will get rid of the carpet. Not sure what I benefit from the torque drive versus the direct drive. thanks

Hello, we are considering buying the V10 animal or the V10 absolute but we have heard that the animal does not come with the soft roller that can be used on hard or lino floors. We have six cats and cat hairs and cat lit are a constant pollutant. It seems that there is not much difference between the two but still need the option to hoover up crumbs etc off hard floors. Would it be best to go for the absolute model to cover both options ? Also when the device is put away on charge can the power be left on all the time ? does it have an intelligent cut off when enough power has transferred will it damage anything if the power is left permanently on ? Yours Faithfully, Dennis R. Matterson. Ilkley.

I have been torn between which vacuum to buy (shark vs dyson) since both have a hefty price tag and on a limited budget I want the best performance and longest life span. Your reviews are excellent and finally helped me make my decision. Your review was more informative than any customer review I have read about either model. A huge thank you. 2ff7e9595c
